My DVD is here! Yay! The shipping box got a bit crushed in the top right corner (which also smushed a bit of the box and cracked some of the plastic covering on the inside). I think what happened is they jammed it into the mailbox in it didn't quite fit (at least not the way they put it in). If it was going to cause a problem like that, they should have just gave me one of those go pick your package up at the post office things. The DVDs themselves work fine though so I won't bother complaining in an official way.

I've already watched one ep (it had powers being stolen, android duplicates of Superfriends and harnessing the power of the sun to create an incredibly powerful substance called liquid sunlight. All that in one 22 min ep. Great stuff). I think I'm going to watch another one now and try to go to bed a bit earlier than usual.

Yume identified the movie but she couldn't come up with the character. Bustin could though so he gets the point.

Today was quite the lazy day.  I watched stuff, played stuff and that's about it.  Even so I don't seem to have a whole lot of energy for writing tonight.  Ah well.

Oh, one kinda interesting thing is the ep of Brisco I had today featured Mercedes McNab (aka Harmony).   I never really realized how young she was until I saw that (She's only 24 (I would have probably put her a few years older along with the rest of the Buffy crew)).

- Duckman

I'm shocked nobody got this as it's like the most generic Duckman quote there is (he says this anytime he does his little Duckman dance) and people have correctly guessed much more obscure Duckman quotes.  A pox on thee all!

This one's even easier.

Sort of memorable day at work today as I've officially finished with my facilitation and I'm now on a team.  It's a fairly impressive feat to make it through facilitation this time around as they had a much higher than expected drop out rate with our group.  Somewhere around 50% of the people who started the same day I did aren't with the company anymore.  I think the second group may have also had a high rate of dropping out as they started a new group this week and another round of trainees are hitting the classroom in 2 weeks.

I'm not sure if I really like my schedule or not.  My teammates seem like a good bunch of people and I do get quite a few more days off, but I also have to work longer shifts.  I'm not sure exactly how the schedule works but I know my starting time varies from 12:45 PM - 4:45 PM with the shift ending time varying from midnight and 4 AM.  I never really had a good look at the schedule but I know it's a combination of 2 and 3 day shifts (both on and off).  I'm not sure if it's 2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 3 off or the more complex (yet more stable) 2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off.  I'm kinda hoping it's the latter as it would give me a much more stable schedule.  I do know that I've got 2 on (Monday, Tuesday), 2 off (Wed, Thurs), 3 on (Fri, Sat, Sun) right after my 2 regular, shorter lengthed shifts on Sat and Sun though so it'll be kind of a rough first week but I'm hoping things will end up being all right.

Yume picked up on this one showing she knows her Bushisms.

Turns out that the post office types accidentally sent me two copies of the last notice for the package I'd picked up almost 2 weeks ago.  Ahhh, bureaucracy.

This is one of Batman's more unusual double-entredres.  Yume was the one who guessed this one.

Came home today to find two mail notices in my door that were apparently delivered today.  According to them, they're my final notices for picking up parcels from my nearest post office outlet.  The odd thing is I've never gotten other notices about this.  I had a package (my high speed modem) a while back and I got that.  It's possible that they made a mix up and they think I haven't gotten then (though I'm not sure why there are 2 notices).  They say I've got to pick up my package by the 27th.  The possibly crappy thing is that I could possibly have arrived today.  I'm worried maybe they mixed things up and they think they've had that DVD for a couple weeks now.  So tomorrow afternoon I'll have to make a journey to ye olde post office outlet and see what the hell is going on.

This comes from the episode where Homer eats the insanity pepper and trips out.  Bustin got it eventually.

I've been on quite the MST3K kick of late.  Since Thursday I've downloaded 8 or 9 episodes.  I've only watched two so far (Earth vs. The Spider and The Horror of Party Beach) but they were both high quality (esp Party Beach).  I missed being able to download things like that.

(not really a) Quote of the YesterDay:
Clue #1: This movie's director has some lesser known works like Mask in Blue and The Beggar Student
Clue #2:  The story of the movie has a romantic sub-plot that doesn't come to pass, thanks largely to the circumstances surrounding the lead male.
Clue #3:  Said lead male is bitten by a rather unusual spider early in the movie.
Clue #4:  This bite gives the man properties which are usually that of a spider.  Some might even say this makes him into some kind of spider-person or spider-man.

Peasel guessed Spiderman for this one.  It's actually Horrors of Spider Island (the spider powers were a bit less beneficial to society in this guess though :P).  I was a bastard and I deliberately tried to mislead people on that one.  The key clue is the first one which eliminates Sam Raimi as the director.

Remember yesterday's post where I said I was going to bed at 2:30?  Well, that was a lie.  I actually tried to go to bed but I just couldn't get to sleep.  2:30 AM has become like before midnight used to be.  It's just way too early to be going to sleep.  So instead I ended up going to bed around 7 AM.

In other news, I'm offically proclaiming The Reason as this summer's overplayed song.  It seems like every summer there's one song that gets waaay too much radioplay and you become incredibly sick of it regardless of your initial feelings for the song.  It's been building for a long time but today marked the point where I've started rushing to change the radio station when I hear the opening of the song, hence I'm ready to proclaim it as being overplayed.  Congrats go out to Hoobastank (what the fuck kind of name is that anyway?).

In other, other news I've decided to have a new contest.  And this time the prize that is up for grabs is the Challenge of the Super Friends: Attack of the Legion of Doom DVD.  I ordered the entire season on DVD on Friday (for about the same price is the 4 ep DVD costs actually) so I don't really need to have the 4 ep DVD anymore.  There are some classic eps on the DVD and any Super Friends fan is sure to love it.

How do you get a chance at winning this awesome prize?  All you have to do is write your own Superfriends script.  Anything from The Challenge of the Superfriends up to Superfriends: The Legendary Super Powers Show is admissable.  Stories within these seasons range in length from 5 minutes, 1 act stories up to full-length 3 act ones.  You also have to work with the character limitations of the given seasons.  For the most part that just means no Wendy and Marvin (I've never seen them so I can't judge on how good a job you do of duplicating them.  I imagine they were pretty lame too as the Wonder-twins were brought into replace them.  Anytime you're replaced by the Wonder-twins, you gotta suck).  I want the stories to capture the spirit of the show.  In otherwise, lame and non-sensical developments are perfectly acceptable.  The writer of the script that I feel best captures the spirit of the show will win the DVD.

Here's a few tips for writing the eps.

1.  If you are dealing with a 1 act story, there's usually no more than 4 or 5 characters featured.  Even the full length ones often don't go above 5 or 6 superfriends.

2.  Characters that are featured in a very high % of eps: Batman, Robin, Superman, Wonder-Woman (there are very few eps that don't feature at least one of these 4 heroes)

Characters that are in a high % of eps:  Aqua man, Gleek, Wonder-twins, Apache Chief

Characters that show up a fair a bit: Black Vulcan, Samurai, Firestorm, Atom

Characters that are infrequently featured: Flash, El Dorado, Green Lantern, Hawk-man, Hawk-Girl (though I don't think those 2 show up at all in Legendary Super Powers) (and possibly some others I'm forgetting due to their rare appearances)

The appearance rates sometimes differ from season to season as well.  For instance, Firestorm has been featured in every story I've seen from Legendary Super Powers but he didn't even exist in other seasons.

3.  If you aren't sure about a character's powers, do a little digging online.

4.  For a problem to overcome you can use any villian from the show or you can come up with a new one.  Natural disasters and the like are also sometimes a problem.

5.  Keep in mind that if you write a wonder-twins story, the problems they solved are usually ones that could be solved fairly easily by any other super-friend (or any intelligent person with sufficent resources for that matter).  If they do have to deal with a larger problem, they almost always need help.  Oh and unfortunately Gleek is ALWAYS there too.

6.  If you've never written a script before, take a look at a few online to give you an idea of how they're written.  They aren't that hard to write.  Much easier than writing a short story or a novel.

7.  Have fun with this.  I kinda wish this was someone else's contest, just so I could come up with an entry of my own.

Contest closes on August 7th at 11:59 PM.  That should give everyone out there plenty of time to write a story (even a full length one).

Oh, and in case anyone complains that this contest favors those who at least occasionally watch Superfriends, if you don't like the show, why would you want the DVD anyway?

Quote of the YesterDay: "This job would be great if it wasn't for the fucking customers."
- Randal

Hbaka redeems himself and gets the Kevin Smith reference this time around.

Quote of the Day:
Since everyone is big on the giving clues for people to guess at, I thought I'd give a try (just for a day.  I plan to return to quotes tomorrow) as well.

As usual the clues will make it more and more obvious till the final clue.

If you still need help, then you obviously need to expand your movie-viewing. :P
