Wow, it's been a while. Don't really have an excuse, other than laziness is overwhelming at times. I'm going to try to get back in the habit of updating this more often but I'm not going to make any promises cause, like I said, laziness is overwhelming.
Of course, there's only one thing on everyone's mind this time of year, so I may as well talk about that.
Clothespins, which work better, the springy ones or the other kind?
The other day Granger asked me how I, as an atheist, can celebrate Christmas? She's fairly new to the whole being an atheist thing so the fact she's pondering such things is not surprising. I myself dealt with the issue as well. I gave her an answer but I thought I'd expand on that here.
There are basically two aspects to Christmas now. There's the religious, celebrate the birth of Jesus aspect and there's the celebrate your friends and family, hang out and give each other presents aspect. For religious Christians, both are an important part of the holiday. For those of us who aren't big on Jesus, it is still easy to enjoy the holiday on a friends and family level.
I think, ironically, it is the commercialism of Christmas which people complain about which has helped it move away from being a strictly religious celebration to one that the non-religious (or in some cases, the religious non-Christian) can partake in and enjoy. The addition of Santa, and the whole gift-giving thing really helped open Christmas up to those who do not care to celebrate the Christ part. So, if you aren't Christian and you celebrate Christmas, you really shouldn't complain about it being too commercial, you ungrateful bastards! :P
Quilted Porcupine, away!
