Heyo!
Well, I've been gone quite a while. The first month or so, I have no excuse for. I had lots of free time but I just never got around to updating this. I'm back to school now and there have actually been a few periods where I was busy enough that I didn't really have the time to write on this anyway. Those of you who know me, know that it's quite rare for school work to tie up that much of my time, but there you have it. Fortunately, things are back to a more normal pace and I have free time now so here's an update!
I'm pretty happy with the way things are working out at Acadia this year. The suite set-up is really nice as I have lots of space, I get to hang out with my best friend, I've got 2 fridges and a freezer AND I have cable TV in the common room. Yay!
Life is definitely different here than it was last year. I've been cooking far more meals and relying on mealhall/take out less often.
The group dynamic has changed quite a bit this year as opposed to other years. Everyone is all over the place now so there's less hanging out en masse then in other years but there's still a lot of hanging out in smaller groups as well as the occasional (once or twice a week maybe) gathering where most of the group gets together. The fact everyone has more of there own space also seems to have allowed people to get along a lot better as the tensions that were prevalent last year are gone for the most part. There's still the occasional disagreement between people but most of the time everyone is on good terms with everyone else, which is a good thing. :-)
Classes have been going pretty well for me this year so far. There's a fair amount of reading to be done as I have to read 9 novels this term, in addition to a variety of poems, short stories, papers and a textbook but the work connected to those things isn't all that high. I'm just glad that I'm the type of person who can enjoy reading pretty much anything in novel/story form. I'm definitely not looking forward to having to read Anne of Green Gables next month (I've never read the book or watched the movie/play but the culture of it annoys the heck out of me) but everything else should be at least readable.
On the class note, if at all possible, do NOT take 20th Century British Poetry (at least not Acadia), it's incredibly dull. You often spend multiple classes talking about a poem that wasn't all that interesting the first time through. The only reason I'm taking it is that I need it in order to graduate (damned Eustace taking his sabbatical this year and thus limiting my choices to 1).
Anyhoo, I've got food to watch and TV to eat... or something.
Quilted Porcupine, away!
