Last night was a postless night thanks to illness on my part. I was feeling completely drained, a bit feverish and I had a sore ear/throat. Feeling quite a bit better today although the ear and throat have been an on and off issue.

I was watching the Daily Show earlier this evening and I realized that I'm quite happy there is such a show. For 30 minutes I can see how fucked up the world is right now and just laugh at the absurdity of it. It's a nice change of pace from the downer that usually comes when one thinks about how the world's going right now. Kudos to Jon Stewart and Co.

Granger guessed the series and the ep but made no mention as to the character. I'm giving her credit anyway thanks to A) a low success rate in recent guesses across the board and B) the fact that the speaker is pretty obvious if you know the ep.

Quote of the Day: "When I first heard that X was joining the police academy, I thought it would be fun and zany, like that movie Spaceballs. But instead it's been dark and disturbing. Like that movie - Police Academy."

Hallelujah!

Finally some good news in US politics. Today the attorney-general announced that he is resigning. This is fucking great news. Sure Bush gets to name a new attorney-general but he'd be hard pressed to find someone worse than Ashcroft.

For those who don't know Ashcroft's accomplishments include being heavily involved with the Patriot Act and the loss of personal freedoms that comes with that, having a dress put on the Statue of Justice because he thought it was indecent and saying things like this "Unique among the nations, America recognized the source of our character as being godly and eternal, not being civic and temporal. And because we have understood that our source is eternal, America has been different. We have no king but Jesus." (http://www.quotationspage.com/quote/32146.html) in speeches as the attorney-general (i.e. press conferences and the like) . If I remember correctly that was the same speech where Ashcroft broke into a song about the soaring eagle and how America has no king but Jesus. I, for one, will be quite glad to see him go.

This one is from Treehouse of Horror V. I'm quite shocked nobody got it.

First day of training was today so I've got a lot better idea of what to expect with the job. It seems like it's going to be a lot more open-ended than the last one. With my previous position it was basically identify the problem and follow the flowchart. This one seems like it'll cover a lot more problems and also allow you to figure out solutions on your own. So that's a plus. I also found out that I get Thursday off for Rememberance Day. This marks this first time in all the jobs I've worked that I've been off on a holiday because it was a holiday (there were some I was off due to chance) . Outside of training I won't get any (though I'll get paid more if I work one) but it's kinda neat to get this one.

Honestly though, despite the fact it looks far more interesting/challenging than my last job, I'm still hoping to find something else ASAP.

Hbaka picked up on this one first giving him yet another point. I haven't updated the points in a long time but when I finally get around to it, I suspect he'll have quite a little lead built up.

This transitioning back to dial-up is going to take some getting used to. It's kind of like having a really fast car and then trading it in for a Segway. Both of them will get you were you need to be but one takes a wee bit longer.

I've also come to the realization I should probably start writing these updates before I feel really tired. Yawning and typing do not a winning combination make.

Question of the YesterDays: One what sci-fi series would you be able to find a character named 'Skankita'?
You would find said character on Lexx. More specifically she was one of the two druggies that benefitted from Kai's knowledge of the ATM code in "Prime Ridge" (the ep where the Lexx crew buys a house and there's much gun violence) Hbaka pieced this one together.
