Again with the posting just before sleeping time. Tomorrow night probably will be similar as I imagine I'll be at least partially drunk and that'll likely lead to late being up and not early blog writing in.

This challenge continues to be a difficult one. If the word was for a month, or even a week, I think I'd adapt to not using it and it would be more or less automatic. As it is however, one day is simply not long enough to adapt. And it's pretty hard to keep in mind that the word isn't to be said. Ah well.

Saturday's Banned Word of the Day: Drink

Seeing as I plan to be consuming a number of drinks tomorrow, should be an interesting/fun banned word.

Friday, January 16, 2004

Well, the earlier posting thing didn't work out quite so well. Maybe next time.

Banned Word of the Day: Warm

Thought of it because it is something I'm very much not right now. Also keeps up the intentional 'wa' word streak (which is now entering its third day)

Thursday, January 15, 2004

Turns out that today's word was a lot easier than 'for' was. I think part of it was due to the fact I was more able to remember about the word throughout the day and partly due to the fact that it's a much less commonly used word. I don't think there were any slip ups. If there were, neither myself, nor anyone else noticed.

I've decided I should really start posting about the new word a little earlier. I always wait until I'm just about to go to bed, by which point I'm too tired to get into other details of my day or thoughts I've had on things. In the future, I'll try to do this at least 30 minutes before I plan to go to bed. Theoritically that'll allow for more writings.

Thursday's word of the day: Watch

Should be a bit on the tricky side as it's a verb and one I use semi-regularly. Time will tell I guess.

Wednesday, January 14, 2004

Well, it turns out that the Banned Word of the Day is actually more difficult than I anticipated. It wasn't that hard to get around using the word but the problem was that it's very hard to keep in mind that the word isn't to be said. Unsurprisingly, there were a few slip-ups.

Wednesday's word shouldn't be as bad as A) I'll slowly be getting used to cutting out a word and B) I'm going with an easier word. The reason I'm choosing an easier word is pretty simple. There are only a few dozen really common words that we use in our everyday language and if I just went through them within a couple months, I'd have exhausted all the possible words and be left with only the easier ones.

Wednesday's Banned Word of the Day: Water

And now, I must go gather up my laundry and get some sleep. It's been a long and tiring kind of day and I'm feeling rather drained or else I'd write more.

Tuesday, January 13, 2004

In the interest of the bizarre, I've come up with a weird new challenge. It's kind of the opposite of a word of the day thing.

It works like this. Each day I'll pick one word and then that word is off-limits. I'm going to try to avoid using the word at all but with some of the words (the tougher ones at least), I will make exceptions for class-related stuff (as I don't want to sound like a complete moron in class by having to think of ways around words like 'a' :P).

Another added bonus of this challenge is that it should also lead to my posting in my blog a lot more as I'll have to list the forbidden word of the day (and presumably I'll talk about other stuff while I'm at it).

The reason I'm posting it on here as opposed to just keeping track myself is so that you, the reader, can have an opportunity to join in on the fun! It should be an interesting way to see how language works and to push yourself creatively.

I figure I'll start out with something kinda easy today (as in Tuesday the 13th). The challenge begins upon waking and ends once I go to sleep for the day (if you participate obviously you would change that to your waking and sleeping times). The first word of the Banned Word Challenge shall be... *drumroll* FOR! It's a fairly common word but at the same time, it should be easier to get around than a lot of common words would be.

Tune in Tuesday night for news of how the first day went and to find out the new word of the day!
