The Quilted Cave

Ramblings from everyone's favorite quilted super-hero.

Oh another thing I meant to mention about Brisco. There seems to be a wide variety of Star Trek actors on the show. The first ep we watched last night had Robert Picardo (Doctor on Voyager) in it and the second had Denise Crosby (Yarr from TNG). I'm curious to see if any other Star Trek people will turn up on the show or if it's just a coincidence.

One day, (I think it was either in the summer of 2003 or 2002) I was flipping around the channels and I came across an airing of the 2 hour pilot of "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr". I had never seen the show before but I had heard that A) it had Bruce Campbell, B) it was well recieved by the critics and C) it had a cult fan base thing going on. I watched the movie and was quite entertained. I hoped that it was the beginning of Spike showing the TV series but alas it was just a Saturday afternoon movie thing.

For those who don't know (as I imagine most of you don't), Brisco is kind of hard to describe. The name makes it sound like some sort of period drama but it's definitely not. IMDB lists it as being in the Action/Sci-Fi/Western/Adventure/Comedy genre which is a fairly accurate placement. The show is set in the late 1800s and follows the adventures of Brisco County Jr. He is a bounty hunter and his primary goal is to capture Bly, the man who murdered his father (who was a marshall). The show has some serious moments as well as some not so serious moments. The mood is actually kind of similar to that established on Hercules/Xena (also seems to have the same sort of recurring character thing being set up).

Anyway, a couple months ago I stumbled across episode 23 of the show and put it on my computer; I never got around to watching it though. A few days ago I started downloading episodes 2-4 (the pilot is ep 1) off of Suprnova. Tonight they finished downloading and so Webrunner and I watched a couple of them. I must say that I'm a fan. Definitely going to have to get my hands on some more episodes. The episodes seem to be fairly stand-alone so far but there are also elements which carry over so I'm going to try to get them in order if possible (still have ep 4 to watch but then it jumps up 19 episodes).

Defunct Word of the Day: embiggen
To build up. It's a perfectly cromulent word! (OED's down)

I thought about putting up my postcard story on here for tonight's update but I'm not sure if it's quite ready to be debuted to the masses (well, very small masses) just yet. I'll see if I can tinker with it a bit tomorrow and throw it up tomorrow night maybe. In the meantime, you get to hear me speak fondly of the fact it is the weekend.

Yay weekend! I've got a bit of work to do (paper sorta due on Tuesday, a 'Writer's Choice' work for Creative Writing which is due on Monday and a presentation also on Monday) but none of it should be too time consuming. For the most part, I plan to be doing lots of relaxing.

There's a TNG marathon on Spike TV tomorrow so that'll probably occupy a good portion of my Friday. After that, who knows. I'm sure I'll find something or other fun to do to occupy my weekend.

Defunct Word of the Day: Polenvirotics
It's actually just a 'word' I titled my Enviromental Ethics lecture notes for today with. It's a combination of politics and enviroment (used to talk about environmental politics)

Kinda drawing a blank for things to talk about today. It's not the day was uneventful or anything. There were a fair number of things that happened; I just don't really feel any desire to talk about any of them (not in the 'man, that sucked so bad I don't want to talk about it' way, just in the 'I'm feeling very little creative spark' way). So you'll have to wait until tomorrow for some sort of mildly exciting and/or entertaining updating from your favorite quilted super-hero.

Defunct Word of the Day: joque
It's an obscure form of 'joke'. It kinda looks more sophisticated though...

I get to give a presentation in 10 hours or so. I still have to pick out some quotes for it, but other than that I'm done. Also, I'm doing laundry. I continue to be tired for some strange reason, hence the shortness of tonight's post.

Defunct Word of the Day: babbin

A bundle of brushwood.

Tomorrow morning I have to get up early to get my grad picture taken. My Acadia career is over in about a month. It's still ultra surreal. I've been at Acadia so long that it has become a fully integrated part of my life. It doesn't seem like it'll all be over in a month.

I know at some point the reality of it will hit home but I have no idea when that will be. It could happen at some point in the next few weeks, it could happen when I graduate or it could hold off until everyone goes back to Acadia in the fall and I'm all not there (or even later than that). I know that when it does hit it's going to be super depressing though. This place has meant a lot to me over the past 5 years and I'm not anxious to leave it.

Of course, it's still possible that I'll get accepted into the Masters program for English and I'll be back here in the fall. I'm not holding my breath though.

I guess I'll just continue to enjoy the Acadia life for as long as I can before reality sinks in. :P

Defunct Word of the Day: duity
A twofold nature or condition; a duality.

Mark this one down in your calendar's folks. I'm actually going to bed early! I can't remember the last time I was in bed before 2 AM and now I'm going to bed a little after 11.
I'm just really, really tired for no readily apparent reason. Ah well.

Defunct Word of the Day: ythrungin

One of the odder words I've ever used. It means 'hurled'

So Stephen Harper is the new leader of the Conservative Party of Canada. He was very popular in the West and fairly popular in central Canada but was quite soundly beaten in Atlantic Canada. Kind of goes to show you that the merger between the Alliance and the PCs is more like a takeover of the PCs by the Alliance.

I'm definitely going to try to get involved in the election campaign this year. I want to do everything I can to help keep the CPs out of power. The liberals may have done some shitty things but they are a still a hell of a lot better choice.

Defunct Word of the Day: accable
To overwhelm/crush.
