So very tired.

I love our new dog (now known as "Heidi" in a decision made by people who were not me), but she's causing serious problems for my sleep schedule.

As she is still only 8 weeks old, she does not sleep through the night and around 5:30 or so, she likes to get up and (if I'm fast enough) do her business outside. This, in and of itself is not a problem. The problem is that she only really has the two modes. There's awake and super-hyper or sleeping. So when I take her back in, she's switched into hyper mode and is not ready to go back to sleep.

If I try to put her in her kennel, she'll whine and claw at the door. If I let her out onto the bed she'll run around and try to chew on things (like my hair and my ear :P). I usually end up letting her play on the floor. She's rather loud when playing with toys and (a new favorite that's great for a laugh) barking at her reflection in the mirror. By now it's usually 6 o'clock anyway and my parents will be getting her in 20 mins to feed her and let her out again.

When she does return, of course, she's usually still in hyper mode. If I'm lucky I'll be able to get her to go for a nap by 7:30 which lets me go back to sleep (after a 2 hour break of being awake). Unfortunately, she'll want out again to pee by 9 at the latest.

As you can imagine, this is seriously hampering my ability to get a good rest and has left me feeling more and more worn out as the week goes on. Unfortunately, I don't see things getting better for a while yet.

In other news, I had a pretty cool/messed up dream this morning. While I don't remember all of it, it was set in quasi-modern day/near future time wise and a combination of Acadia and a weird city block, location-wise. I can't remember all the details but some of the highlights include:
taking refuge from aliens/zombie/undead thingees in a special refuge center that was hidden behind a fake wall and was filled with audio tapes about what the things were/ways to deal with them/etc and then realizing that they could climb ladders so the second floor was actually a dead end and I'd better get the hell out of there;
having my car disappear after I turn my back on it for literally less than 2 minutes (while standing less than 20 feet from it in a quiet area);
clueing in that a bunch of weird happenings (not the ones above though) were part of a plot by a woman who wanted to revenge on the 3 cops who arrested her 3 friends. Unfortunately, the realization came as the last cop was in another city and a matter of seconds from being stabbed in the neck while riding a motorcycle
And yes, all these events were tied together somehow. I even remember having a conversation about it and telling someone that this had to have been the worst week of my life (but then they gave an even worse account of their week). This happened while hiding back in the aforementioned hiding place. I think the story with the creatures was the main one, the others were kind of sub-plots.

It appears that being tired seems to lead to me writing a lot more in a blupdate. Maybe it's not all bad after all.

Quilted Porcupine, away!
