The Quilted Cave

Ramblings from everyone's favorite quilted super-hero.

One day, many years ago, I went and picked up a copy of Star Ocean: The Second Story. While I had never actually played it prior to this it looked and sounded like a fun game. And it was.

I played through almost the whole game and then got creamed by the final boss. After trying him a few times I realized I'd have to increase my level if I was to beat him. I was feeling lazy and didn't want to spend the time leveling up so I put the game aside for a while.

A few months later I went back and played some more. I leveled up another 10-15 levels and was ready to beat the boss. Before I challenged him again however I decided to visit all the various towns to make sure there weren't any private actions (little cutscenes where the main character interacts with other characters, with the choices you make affecting the ending of the game). There was indeed a private action I had missed that dealt with the end boss and his daughter. Seeing said private action (which I found out later could only be seen if your most recent save was at the final save point) turned off the boss' limiter meaning that instead of being around level 80 or so to beat him, you had to be at or near the max level of 255. Seeing as I saved before I realized that the boss was now much, much stronger the only way I could beat the game would be to put in all the time leveling up that high. I didn't really feel like putting that time in and so the game was untouched for sometime.

Recently I have gone back to the game and now I am closing in on the final boss battle. With any luck in the next day or two I will finally beat the game after many a year.

Defunct Word of the Day: pocock
It's just an obscure form of 'peacock'
